Utah lieutenant governor tests positive for COVID-19

Kristin Murphy, Deseret News

Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson has tested positive for COVID-19, her office announced Sunday. The test result comes days after a string of state lawmakers also tested positive for the virus.

Henderson’s scheduled public events have been canceled as a result of the test results. She had previously been hospitalized due to complications related to COVID-19 in August 2020 and to be placed on supplemental oxygen in October in the same year.

Henderson’s spokeswoman said the lieutenant governor is “doing well under the circumstances and looks forward to getting back to work as soon as possible.”

Gov. Spencer Cox’s spokeswoman also issued a statement Sunday night: “Gov. Cox is fully vaccinated and boosted, has tested negative for COVID-19 and has no symptoms. According to the latest CDC guidance, there is no need for him to quarantine or isolate.”
